AGL offers the regulated free-power plan on every network in our data: 11am-2pm free (12pm-3pm in SA),
up to 24 kWh a day. Its rates are essentially the regulated maximum, and it pays 0c for solar exports.
If you export solar, AGL's own Three for Free plan has the same free hours and pays 15c in the evening.

rounding. Endeavour, Essential Energy and the other Victorian zones are not yet in our register.
Headline finding. AGL's Solar Sharer Offer is the regulated price. Its Ausgrid supply
charge is 0.17c a day under the cap, which is about
$0.62 a year. Everything else matches the
maximum. So the question is not whether AGL's version is good value, but whether the Solar Sharer
beats the plan you are on. The calculator answers that.
How it compares with the cap
In Sydney (Ausgrid) AGL charges 63.72c peak and 27.56c off-peak,
the same as the AER maximums of 63.72c and 27.56c.
In South East Queensland and South Australia it matches the caps to the cent. In Victoria AGL's Midday
Power Saver sits on the gazetted maximums. The rates outside the window are, by design, 1 to 4c above
AGL's own standard time-of-use rates: AGL's Ausgrid standing time-of-use plan charges 60.20c peak and
24.04c off-peak.
One quirk: AGL's plan text quotes the above-cap rate excluding GST (for example 25.05c in Ausgrid).
Including GST it is 27.56c, the same as off-peak.
Feed-in tariff: 0c
AGL's Solar Sharer records list a 0c/kWh retailer feed-in tariff on Ausgrid, Energex and SA Power
Networks. The Victorian Midday Power Saver record has no feed-in entry at all. For a home exporting a few
thousand kWh a year, a 0c feed-in can cancel out the value of the free hours. See
feed-in tariffs.
AGL Three for Free
AGL also sells a market plan, Residential Three for Free, with the same free window. In the government
feed its usage rates match AGL's Solar Sharer Offer, its supply charge is a little lower, and it pays a
15c feed-in tariff from 5pm to 9pm (0c at other times).
AGL Residential Three for Free (market plan) against AGL's Solar Sharer Offer, including GST
On Ausgrid the supply difference is worth about $6.46 a year. The evening
feed-in matters more, but it is paid only on exports between 5pm and 9pm; midday exports still earn
0c. Market plans can change their rates with notice, so
check AGL's current fact sheet. AGL Three for Free is a market plan, not the regulated offer.
How to ask for it
Check you have a smart meter (AGL's plan records list type 4 meters). See smart meters.
Call AGL on 131 245, the number on its plan records, or go through agl.com.au. Ask for the "Residential Solar Sharer Offer" (or "Midday Power Saver" in Victoria) and quote the plan ID above.
Before agreeing, AGL must tell you the plan suits people who can shift usage and that not shifting could cost more.

Common questions
Does AGL offer the Solar Sharer Offer?
Yes. AGL's "Residential Solar Sharer Offer" is in the government plan feed for Ausgrid, Energex and SA Power Networks, and its "Midday Power Saver" for Victoria (CitiPower in our data). Free hours are 11am-2pm (12pm-3pm in SA), up to 24 kWh a day, and the rates match the regulated maximums almost exactly.
What feed-in tariff does AGL pay on the Solar Sharer Offer?
Zero. AGL's Solar Sharer records for Ausgrid, Energex and SA Power Networks list a 0c/kWh retailer feed-in tariff, and its Victorian Midday Power Saver record has no feed-in entry. If you export solar, look at AGL Three for Free, which in the same feed pays 15c from 5pm to 9pm.
What is the difference between AGL Three for Free and the Solar Sharer Offer?
Three for Free is AGL's own market plan. In the feed it has the same free window, the same 24 kWh cap and the same usage rates as AGL's Solar Sharer Offer, a slightly lower supply charge, and a 15c feed-in tariff from 5pm to 9pm (0c at other times). Check current terms with AGL before switching.
How do I ask AGL for the Solar Sharer Offer?
AGL's plan records give 131 245 and agl.com.au as the contact. Ask for the plan by name and quote the plan ID from the table on this page. You need a smart meter. Compare it with your current AGL plan first: the Solar Sharer rates outside the window are higher.
